Itinerary

DAY 1: TRAVELING

Depart New York (JFK) on South African Airways to Johannesburg.

 

DAY 2: JOHANNESBURG

On arrival at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Relax after your flight.

DAY 3: JOHANNESBURG

After breakfast you will be collected for a scheduled full day "Journey to Freedom" tour.

Come and share the magic of the Rainbow Nation which IS South Africa! Constantly striving to achieve true democracy, South Africans have been through a fascinating history. This tour shares some of the journey, pain and struggle of those heroes. Witness the places and experience the diverse museums where these momentous, tumultuous years have been so well documented.

Our day begins at the legendary Apartheid Museum. This is an interactive voyage of discovery, one which takes you from the dark days of ‘whites only’ privilege, through to Nelson Mandela’s historic release. The Apartheid Museum is a multimedia experience, with documentary film snippets, texts, sound clips and live accounts, recapturing life in the dark days of South Africa.

We will stop for lunch in Soweto at a local restaurant (own account).

DAY 4: CAPE TOWN

After breakfast you will be met and transferred to Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport for your flight to Cape Town International Airport.

On arrival in Cape Town, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where you can spend the rest of your day at leisure.

DAY 5: CAPE TOWN

After breakfast you will depart the hotel for a full day Cultural tour.

Today we will visit the Townships – a tour that offers you an insight and interaction with different cultures, communities and individuals. Witness every day life in a harsh environment which tells of the struggles, hopes and achievements. See why 27 April 1994 was such an important day in South Africa (first democratic elections).

We start with a tour of District Six. See the oldest mosque in S.A. District Six was once home to thousands of people of various cultures. We visit Langa, the oldest formal black township in Cape Town, and see the local market, an art & crafts centre, and we visit a traditional healer. Experience the warm hospitality of a local B&B. We visit a crèche offering fun, and a safe haven for the local children. We also visit Bonteheuwel, Nyanga, Crossroads, Khayelitscha, and Gugulethu where we see the Gugulethu Seven Memorial and the Amy Biehl Memorial.

After the morning's activities you will be transferred to the Robben Island Ferry jetty.

Board the Robben Island ferry and enjoy spectacular views of Cape Town and Table Mountain as you sail across the bay to this island which is so full of history. Once you reach the island you will be given a guided tour and see the prison cell that held Nelson Mandela captive for so many years.

DAY 6: CAPE TOWN

A full day at leisure to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town. Maybe take a trip in the cable car up Table Mountain.

DAYS 7 - 10: DURBAN

After breakfast you will be transferred to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Durban.

On arrival at Durban's King Shaka International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Some highlights include Golden Mile, 8th largest harbor in the world, African/Indian Markets, Phansi Museum, Durban Botanic Gardens and Moses Mabhida Stadium.
