Itinerary

DAY 1: TRAVELING

Depart from New York (JFK) for your South African Airways flight to Johannesburg.

 

DAY 2: ENTEBBE

On arrival in Johannesburg, you will connect onwards for your flight to Entebbe International Airport.

Upon arrival at Entebbe you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

DAY 3: KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will be met and transferred to Kibale Forest National Park.

You will experience a Bigodi nature walk.

The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a fascinating area, located in Magombe swamp. This area is recognized for a extensive array of biodiversity among which are several primates species like the red colobus monkey, baboon, black & white colobus monkey, blue monkey grey cheeked, mangabey, vervet monkey, red tailed monkey and the L’Hoest monkey. Additional Mammals such as chimpanzees, Sitatunga, mongooses, bush pigs, otters plus bush bucks, also visit this swamp coming from the adjacent Kibale National Park.

DAY 4: KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

After an early breakfast you will depart on a Full Day Chimpanzee Habituation Experience.

This experience is a unique opportunity that will allow you to follow a chimpanzee group in its daily activities.

Accompanying Kibale reserve researchers and rangers, you will be on the forest floor early in the morning to watch the chimps wake-up (de-nesting) and search for their breakfast. Then you will follow them all day - observing the full gamut of their behavior - until they build new nests (nesting) for themselves at around 7.30pm.

You will be part of the Uganda Wildlife Authority initiative to habituate chimps to the human presence without changing their natural environment. This is one of the great moments of your safari!

Kibale Forest National Park offers the greatest variety and concentration of primates in East Africa including about 500 chimpanzees! It offers the best primate viewing (particularly chimpanzee viewing) and has a bird list of 335 bird species and 140 species of butterflies.

DAY 5: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will be met and transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel.

The Kazinga channel is a wide, 36-km long natural channel connecting the two Lakes; Lake George (which is to the east) and Lake Edward (which is to the west). From the safe boat you can see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodile and many water birds. The water birds are plentiful along the channel; African skimmers, African fish eagles, cormorants, saddle-billed storks, pelicans, etc.

DAY 6: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Wake up for an early morning game drive which is usually the most rewarding.

Wildlife on the North Kazinga plains closest to the Lodge includes elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, waterbuck, bushbuck and warthog. Another common-but unexpected-sighting in this area is the Giant Forest Hog, Africa’s largest pig.

You will then be transferred to Ishasha.

DAY 7: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will be met and depart on a Full Day Game Drive in search of the tree climbing lions.

The famous tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha sector are found in large fig trees in the remote southern extremity of the park. These tree-dwelling lions prey on the Topi, Uganda Kob, and (if feeling confident!) Cape Buffalo which graze Ishasha’s beautiful acacia studded savanna.

DAY 8: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST

After breakfast you will be met and transferred to Bwindi.

DAY 9: BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST

After breakfast you will depart for your Gorilla trekking experience.

Gorilla Trekking for many, is the experience of a lifetime and Rushaga is the best place for a gorilla trek.

Rushaga is the only area in Bwindi for the Gorilla Habituation Experience.

There are two groups being habituated in the Rushaga area and you can join the researchers, trackers, and others in spending four hours with a gorilla family, add the hike to the group and back out again and you have a full-day activity that will stay with you for a long time to come.

DAY 10: LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park.

Head out on a tranquil two-hour boat voyage along the wildlife-rich eastern banks of Lake Mburo. Keep an eye out for crocodiles, buffalo, and hippos as well as colorful Kingfishers, magnificent Fish Eagles and Hammerkops with their enormous nests.

DAY 11: DEPARTURE

Enjoy a morning guided nature walk in the Park.

Locations include the salt lick at Rwonyo, the lake's banks, Rubanga Forest and a hilltop with gorgeous lake views.

You will then be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your flight to Johannesburg and onward connection to the U.S.

 

DAY 12: TRAVELING

Arrival in the United States at New York (JFK) airports.
