Itinerary

Day 1 - Saturday

 
Depart from New York (JFK) or Washington Dulles (IAD) for your South African Airways flight to South Africa.
 

Day 2 - Sunday

 
On arrival in Johannesburg you may take the complimentary shuttle bus to your hotel.

Day 3 - Monday

 
Take the complimentary shuttle bus to OR Tambo International Airport for your flight to Nairobi.
 
On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel, where you have the rest of the day is at leisure to relax.
 
The Jacaranda Hotel is a comfortable, well equipped hotel set in beautiful gardens in the heart of Westlands, a ten minute taxi ride from the center of Nairobi. Its location avoids the noise and bustle of the city, yet the charms and attractions of the city remain accessible.

Day 4 - Tuesday

 
After breakfast you will be met by your local driver-guide to depart for the world renowned Masai Mara Game Reserve, one of the greatest game sanctuaries on earth. The reserve is justly famous for its great Wildebeest migration that passes from the neighboring Serengeti into the Masai Mara every year around July.
 
Lunch will be served at the lodge followed by an afternoon on safari in the reserve.
 
Located on the slopes of Oloongams Hills, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge was one of the first lodges to be built in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The lodge is built in an ethnic design, surrounded by a rich landscape, covered in fauna, from huge desert cacti to sweet smelling jasmine flowers, all within the fabled Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Day 5 - Wednesday

 
Enjoy a full day in the Maasai Mara on safari.
 
The Masai Mara National Reserve is in the south western part of Kenya and forms part of the greater eco-system that encompasses the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The Masai Mara (also spelt Maasai Mara) is one of the best known and most visited reserves in Africa. The park is surrounded by concession areas and tribal lands of the Maasai tribes people. These are unfenced from the Mara and act as a buffer zone for the National Park and form part of the migration area. The Masai Mara consists of open savannah, rolling grasslands and undulating hills. July to September sees the annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle coming from the plains of the Serengeti. Driven by dry conditions in the Serengeti and led by the lightning and thunder to the north, huge herds of mammals cross the Tanzanian border and rivers to reach the Mara's grasslands.

Day 6 - Thursday

 
After breakfast depart from the Masai Mara and travel to Lake Naivasha. The 4 hour journey will take you via the town of Narok and through the southern side of the Mau Escarpment, Hells Gate and Longonot National Parks. Arriving around lunch time, enjoy lunch at the lodge followed by a leisurely boat trip on Lake Naivasha.
 
The lake is a birders paradise and is bound to draw excitement from the prolific variety and numbers. After the afternoon on the lake, you will return to the lodge for dinner.
 
Naivasha is a Masai name given to the area where the resort is located, denoting the characteristics of the lake including size and its tendency to roughness when windy. The history of the area has always been important as it formed the main route of the slave trade from Uganda and the highlands of Kenya, including in 1884, the Scottish explorer Joseph Thompson’s epic journey through Masai land – where he writes in his journals of his time in Naivasha.
 
The lodge is situated by the shores of Lake Naivasha, a sweet water lake and home to many varieties of flora and fauna.

Day 7 - Friday

 
After a leisurely morning depart from Lake Naivasha and travel to Nairobi.
 
Lunch will be at the famous Carnivore Restaurant were a variety of different dishes can be enjoyed - a highlight in Pan-African cuisine.
 
After lunch you will depart for Amboseli National Park where you will arrive late afternoon. Vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro and herds of elephant will welcome you to this world renowned community reserve. A game drive through the park will take you to the lodge.
 
Dinner will be served at the lodge.
 
Different species of birds build their nests while monkeys with babies clinging under their bellies and squirrels dart through the gardens.

Day 8 - Saturday

 
Enjoy a full day on safari in Amboseli, with its famous back-drop of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro. Experience a wide variety of wildlife congregate in the shadow of Africa’s highest mountain.

Day 9 - Sunday

 
After breakfast you will travel eastwards to the Tsavo East game reserve. The journey will take you through the valley between Mount Kilimanjaro and the Chyulu Hills. The valley, about 100km wide, plays host to a variety of migratory animals who live hand in hand with the Masai communities. You will travel across the Chyulu Hills, which are the youngest range of volcanoes in the world, to Tsavo, famed for the “infamous” man eating lions of Tsavo.
 
Lunch will be served at the lodge followed by an afternoon on safari in Tsavo East.
 
Return to the lodge for dinner.
 
Ngutuni Lodge is conveniently situated, some 15 minutes from the Tsavo East National Park main gate and about half an hour from Tsavo West National Park and the Taita Hills. It is the ideal base from which to visit these excellent attractions, on easy excursions, returning to the comfort and friendly welcome from familiar faces at Ngutuni Lodge.

Day 10 - Monday

 
After breakfast it is time to bid the savannah farewell and travel towards the coast. The journey will take you through Mombasa, which was the gateway to East Africa for many years. This bustling port city was its famous Tusk arches plays hosts to the biggest import/export trading in East Africa. You will journey South to Diani Beach where you will settle into your coastal resort set facing the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
 
Papillon Lagoon Reef is located on Diani beach, widely considered to be Kenya's most beautiful beach. The hotel is built in traditional Swahili style, and nestles within exotic gardens, where colobus monkeys populate ancient baobab trees.
 
Make the most of the beach-side location with a wide range of water sports including windsurfing, snorkeling and beach fishing, or book a diving trip with our resident dive team to explore the nearby coral reefs. The pool, with its own swim-up bar, is a great place to relax and there’s also a separate pool for children.
