We arrived at Waterside Game lodge in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve on a warm October afternoon after a short transfer from Hoedspruit Airport, filled with lively conversation from our driver. It’s always one of my favorite parts of the African experience, chatting up the locals.
We pulled along side the beautiful lodge entrance, where not only the staff there to welcome us with warm moistened towels and big smiles, but two giraffe’s stood no more than 75 feet away, casually munching on the tree leaves above. I’d been there before so wasn’t completely surprised, but my friends were first timers and could hardly contain themselves, falling over each other reaching for cameras to capture what would be the first of many magical moments over the next 3 days on safari.
Top Tip: Always have your camera out when on safari, because everything you come across will always be a surprise!
