Driving through the picturesque KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa was a scenic journey for the #Gr8SA team from South African Airways Vacations. The landscape changed as we approached the famous Drakensberg Mountains area, where we spent two nights at the Drakensberg Gardens Golf and Spa Resort near Underberg. It was amazing how the humidity dropped there, though it was still warm.
Our first night included an amazing meal and a good night’s rest – we went to bed very happy and excited about our next full day of leisure. If you like the outdoors and adventure activities, the Drakensberg Mountains are for you. There was a range of activities available at the resort and our team took advantage of as many as possible! Some of the activities we enjoyed included zip lining, horseback riding, mountain biking, golfing, swimming, hiking, lawn bowling, mini-golfing, playing snooker, pool and ping pong, enjoying the spa and just generally relaxing and basking in the beautiful scenery.
In the evening we had a traditional South African braii (barbecue) and were treated to a serenade by the resort’s choir. The area is fairly remote, so most of the staff of about 180 live on the property for several weeks at a time. They created the choir on their own volition and practice in their off hours. We can attest – they are fantastic. So much talent!
The next morning we were back on the road again. It was about a three-and-a-half-hour drive to Durban, where we had a flight to catch. We were on our way to the famed Kruger National Park.
