Train journeys
There are two luxury trains that operate in South Africa; Rovos Rail and The Blue Train. Both trains run routes from Cape Town to Pretoria (or Pretoria to Cape Town) but Rovos is a more leisurely experience, taking two nights to complete the journey whilst The Blue Train only one night. The Rovos Rail experience is like stepping back in time. Be prepared to turn off your mobile phone and shut down your computer to open a book, newspaper or game of backgammon to dream away the day as the train chuggs by. 
Rovos Rail is described as ‘the most luxurious train in the world’ and is decorated with traditional furnishings and period décor giving the train a certain elegance and grandeur. The dress code is smart casual in the day and elegant in the evenings – there is a sense of historic romanticism seeing all the men dressed in ties and women in elegant dresses.
Spend the day meeting other guests in the observation car, soaking up the landscape, relaxing in your room and stretching your legs in the small town of Matjiesfontein and then Kimberley, to see the diamond mine.

Blue Train - A Window to the Soul of Africa
The Blue Train is a regal experience, for the modern traveler that’s emphasis is less on stepping back in time and taking two nights to relax and unwind, and more for a traveler who has one night to experience a luxury train.
