KwaZulu Natal
KwaZulu Natal is a coastal province in South Africa that is home to the African Zulu tribe. Its humid and subtropical climate (comparable with Southern Florida), 375 mile stretch of lush coastal landscape, warm Indian Ocean, friendly people and strong sense of history makes the province an attractive year round destination for travelers.
So, what is there to do and see in Natal? There is plenty to do in Natal but three of the key highlights that SAA Vacations recommends are the beaches, safaris and culture.
The beaches of KwaZulu Natal stretch north and south of Durban. They offer white sand, warm Indian Ocean waves, scuba reefs to dive and snorkel, the opportunity to dive with sharks, dolphin watching, friendly surf dudes and a relaxed atmosphere.
The word ‘bush’ is a South African term for a safari and KwaZulu Natal offers fantastic game viewing opportunities, game fishing, river safaris, walking safaris and accommodation for all budgets. While the area is abundant with all the same animal species as the Kruger National Park, this province has a different climate and consequently different terrain.
The province is often referred to as the ‘Zulu Kingdom’. The Zulu tribe is one of the 11 official tribes in South Africa who originated and still dominate the Natal Province. This area, more than any other area in the country offers you the opportunity to get an insight into this tribe; their history, their culture, their hospitality and their Zulu pride. As a traveler you are welcomed into their villages to see their huts, you can visit a sangoma (a traditional healer), see animal skin clad Zulus dance under the African sky, or witness a rural wedding ceremony.
Fly into the recently opened International airport of Durban and take some time to explore this astounding province. Admire the lush landscape with its endless sugar cane plantations and long stretches of white sandy beaches. Swim, surf or scuba dive in the warm Indian Ocean, get an insight into the friendly Zulu culture and head out on a safari to get close to some of Africas’ great wild animals. You will not be disappointed.
