Kruger Park and Surrounds
The iconic Kruger National Park is "an unspoiled" and wild part of South Africa that is home to the ‘Big 5’ and other predators. From the comfort and safety of your safari vehicle you can experience scenes reminiscent of wildlife documentaries first hand.
The Kruger National Park borders Mozambique on the eastern border and on the western section of the 23 000 square km park are private reserves with a number of private safari lodges – a popular option with international travelers. The prestigious Sabi Sands Game Reserve, the Timbavati and some private concessions within the National Park offer both luxury and more affordable accommodation, arguably the best wildlife viewing in private, open topped safari vehicles, some of the most knowledgeable staff and great photographic opportunities.
During your stay you will be driven around breathtaking landscapes, walk through the undergrowth, dine under the night sky, read a book in the comfort of your suite or relax with a massage to sooth away the stresses of your everyday life.
As with most of South Africa there is a wide range of accommodation on offer for travelers. Some of the safari lodges cater for children, some are tented, some offer privacy and solitude and others offer enticing public spaces to meet fellow travelers. At SAA Vacations we can offer you a choice of lodges in different locations. Lion Sands has two lodges and a villa in the southern section of the Sabi Sands Reserve, while Simbambili is in the northern section. Tinga is across the Sabie River offering a different experience in one of the Kruger National Park Concessions and finally the lodges of the Thornybush Collection are further north in another reserve.
Whatever accommodation or reserve you choose in the Kruger area your privately guided safari experience will give you the chance to see predators such as the mighty lion, the shy leopard, the agile cheetah, the majestic elephant, white and black rhino, zebras, giraffe, crocodiles, hippo, fantastic birdlife, baboons, the more elusive nocturnal animals and some awe inspiring trees and landscape.
The Kruger National Park and surrounding area is easily accessed from both Cape Town and Johannesburg, making this safari destination a great vacation to combine with a South African city stopover or a relaxing beach break.
