Botswana Family Discovery
The Young Explorers programme is a specially designed safari that allows families the opportunity to discover the wonders of the African wilderness - together. One of the special attractions is its exclusivity: each family has the sole use of a private camp, allowing the daily schedule to be flexible and to be tailored around the ages and interests of all family members. The Young Explorers programme is usually based at Footsteps Across The Delta, an intimate 6 bedded camp in the private Shinde concession. Each family books out exclusive use of the camp, thereby overriding the normal walking programme and the normal minimum age requirement. Activities are planned with children in mind. The key to this is keeping children interested and stimulated, so shorter activities provide more diversity and interaction for the children. The Young Explorers specialist guides are highly experienced in working with children, which allows the parents to relax and enjoy the wilderness, participating at their leisure.
Day 1
Depart from New York (JFK) or Washington Dulles (IAD) for your South African Airways flight to South Africa.
Day 2
On arrival in Johannesburg you will connect onwards for your flight to Maun.
On arrival at Maun Airport, a Safari Air representative will meet and assist you to your onward flight.
Arrival at Shinde Camp airstrip and transfer to Footsteps Across The Delta.
The Footsteps Across The Delta base is a comfortable private camp which accommodates guests in three specially designed, twin-bedded, Meru tents complete with sewn-in floors. Each tent has its own bucket shower and bush toilet, which is attached to the back of the tent and there is even a daily laundry service.
Young Explorers Okavango Family Adventure programme at Footsteps Across The Delta offers a personal safari experience. Hosting a maximum of six guests at a time, it is an ideal option for small groups of friends or family.
The programme offers a personal service with two experienced guides, a personal chef, waiter, housekeeper and Mokoro guides.
The emphasis is on guided walks which allow you to focus on learning how to track wildlife and understand animal movement, patterns and behaviour. Being on foot instead of in a vehicle also allows you to gain in-depth information on trees, grasses and the finer details. Tracking game in specially modified game drive vehicles is also an option as are Mokoro trips. Fly or spin fishing is available throughout the year (with the exception of January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing Tiger fish during September to mid-November.

Day 3
The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer. Availability of activities varies throughout the year and includes early morning or late afternoon game-drives, Mekoro or fishing trips.
Young Explorers learn how to to make small animal traps and how to start a fire from nothing more than two sticks. Learn how to: recognise different animal spoor; identify a range of birds; try their hand at poling a Mokoro; drive a game drive vehicle; fish; and shoot an air rifle at tin cans.

Day 4
The day is at leisure to enjoy the activities on offer.

Enjoy a morning activity followed by breakfast.
You will depart on a shared light aircraft charter flight to Maun airport. Here you will depart on your flight to Johannesburg and connect onwards to New York (JFK) or Washington Dulles (IAD) Airport.
Note
This tour can begin in Washington Dulles instead of New York, however, this would necessitate an overnight stop in Johannesburg at the beginning of the journey before flying to Maun. Please contact us for prices for this option.
Young Explorers price is based on 6 guests (the camp can accommodate minimum 3 and maximum 6 guests, with rates varying accordingly) Minimum age is 7 but special considerations may be made on application.
